James Fallows was Speechwriter to President Jimmy Carter, and went on to write many books, three in particular discussed here — on National Defense, on the broken media, and the most recent, Our Towns, the latter based on a 100,000 mile journey across America with his wife Deborah. This is a deeply thoughtful and patriot man, and his answers should be uplifting to one and all.
