Luke Kenneth Casson Leighton is best known as an advocate for “Libre Ethical Technology”. Trained as a Software Engineer he took an interest in Free Software (Samba) in 1995 after noticing a yawning chasm between the Microsoft and UNIX / Linux worlds.
He then watched for the next two decades as the ongoing sandboxed commercialisation (exploitation) of Software Libre, still in effect today, rolled forwards, and decided to start some hardware initiatives (EOMA68, Libre-SOC) to bridge that chasm just as he did with Samba, but now in the hardware world.
Luke loves Mythbusters, Rollerblading, has read over 700 sci-fi and fantasy novels, writes poetry, has two beautiful daughters, works intermittently on a Particle Physics theory and design and builds his own 3D printers. He has a form of Asperger's and is, paradoxically, a reclusive extrovert.
